Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (including Relationships and Sex Education)

PSHE at Hexton

We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

PSHE teaches our pupils the skills and knowledge needed to develop fully as individuals and as members of families and social and economic communities.  Through these lessons pupils learn how to become responsible for the health of their bodies, minds and relationships.

Through both a topic-based approach and discrete PSHE lessons each term, children at Hexton develop the following skills:

  • emotional intelligence;
  • understanding their own mental health;
  • developing a positive self-image and self-worth;
  • how to develop healthy relationships;
  • responsibility for their own personal hygiene;
  • how to keep themselves safe;
  • understanding the importance of physical activity;
  • understanding the importance of healthy eating.

Examples of our work in PSHE

A lot of our work in PSHE is through discussion, role play and debate. It is not always recorded in books. However, here is a snapshot of the work pupils at Hexton have completed in their books linked to PSHE this academic year:
